Jeffrey “Jeff” W. Shaffer, of Robinson Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 3, 2023. Jeff was born on August 20, 1955 to the late John Shaffer and the late Alice (Donald) Albrecht.  He is survived by his wife Judy; son Jason Shaffer, daughters Amanda (Matt) Toth and Tori Shaffer, grandchildren Owen and Cody Shaffer; siblings Sheree Wittas, John (Leslie) Shaffer, Cindy Lippwe, Lorrie (Tim) Tarby, and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jaime, his sister Debbie Duchess, his brother Gregory Shaffer and his dear friend Ed Nelson.

A graduate of West Allegheny High School in 1973, Jeff was a stellar athlete who excelled in both baseball and swimming. He married his soul mate and best friend, Judy Span, in August of 1980. Jeff worked 40 years at the Pennsylvania American Water Company (1977 – 2017), most recently as a plant operator at the Hays Mine water treatment plant. He was exceptional at his job and was the go-to operator when his co-workers needed help.

As an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, he loved nothing more than spending his retirement watching football or baseball games. From a young age, he was a lover of music and spent his youth at concerts. You would still find him listening to classic “Dad” rock and 90’s grunge on his boombox while doing yard work or cleaning the pool.  Jeff also had the greenest thumb in the family. His favorite season was summer, and he would spend hours in the yard making sure the flowers looked beautiful for Judy. You’d also find him drinking his favorite beer, Coors original, and throwing frisbee to his beloved chocolate lab, Frank.  Often referred to as the “dog whisperer”, he cared for and was loved by many canine friends throughout the years, including Digger, Shadow, Brandy, Hera, Maggie, and Willie. He would often be spotted driving a silver F-150 or riding a red Kubota tractor with his grandkids.

Jeff was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and dear friend to many.  His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and meant more to him than anything in the world, as he often mentioned. He will forever be in our hearts and missed every day.

Family and friends are welcome Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA 15136. Service will follow on Friday November 10, 2023 at 10:00 am at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care . Inurnment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Township.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to all of Jeff’s family. I had the pleasure and privilege to have worked with Jeff for many years at Hays Mine. He was such a excellent and dependable employee to work with and just to be around cause of his wonderful personality. When I later became a supervisor I could always rest assure when I knew that Jeff was operating because he was 2nd to none and could always count on him. I know he will be sorely missed by so many especially you Judy and the rest of your family. God’s blessing to you all.🙏
