John “Jumbo” S. Polansky Jr., age 78, of Washington, passed away peacefully in his home on January 25, 2024.

Born on December 31, 1945, he was the son of the late Helen and John S. Polansky Sr.

Loving and devoted husband of 57 years to Merlene (Pritts) Polansky; loving father to John S. Polansky III and Tara (Mark) Finfrock; cherished grandfather of Tyler Finfrock, Madison Finfrock, Emmalene Polansky and Elaina Polansky; dear brother of Barbara Gedmintas and Paul (Pat) Polansky; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Will be deeply missed by Cassie Wicker (Tyler) and Brent Zavislak (Madison).

Preceeded in death by his sister, Helen “Cookie” Hundzienski and nephew Joseph J. Hundzienski.

John was a lifetime member of the Iron Workers Local #3, for over 40 years.

His biggest joy in life was his wife Merlene and the time they spent together. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, elated to share in their accomplishments. He was a voracious reader, loved spending time with his family and refinishing antique furniture.
One of his favorite sayings was, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

I am so very sorry for your loss. John and Merlene were fantastic neighbors, as were Johnny and Tara. John and I both loved to drink Merlene’s Iced tea. He will be sorely missed by all.
