Lance LaDuke (56), a cherished soul whose life journey began in Benton Harbor, Michigan, sadly concluded on December 10, 2023, due to a tragic accident. Lance leaves behind a loving family and a legacy of warmth and connection. He is survived by his devoted wife, Hannah Clyburn, and their cherished dachshund, Maple. Lance was the beloved son of Kathleen LaDuke and the late Gary LaDuke. He was a caring brother to Ward LaDuke and a proud father to his children Quinn and Duncan LaDuke.
His family circle extended to include his niece, Madison LaDuke, and stepchildren, Nora and David Vaughan, with whom he shared a special bond. Lance’s life was enriched by the presence of many loyal friends and extended family members, all of whom felt the impact of his kindness, humor, and love. Lance and Hannah made their home in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, a town steeped in shared memories and significant moments from their life together.
Lance’s journey through life was marked by his profound passion for music, a path that led him to remarkable achievements and experiences. He laid the foundation for this lifelong journey at Michigan State University, where he graduated with a degree in music education, igniting his true calling. His professional career began with the prestigious opportunity to play in the Air Force Band, a role that took him to the Washington D.C. area, where he resided for over seven years. His journey led him to join the River City Brass Band, prompting a move to Pittsburgh.
One of the most notable highlights of Lance’s career was his time with the Boston Brass, an internationally renowned brass quintet. This experience allowed him to tour extensively, sharing his music and talent across the globe. Lance’s career culminated at Carnegie Mellon University, where he served as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Euphonium and the Director of the Modern Musicking Lab. His time at Carnegie Mellon was not just a job but a testament to his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians, combining his love for performance with education.
Throughout his fantastic journey, both in life and career, Lance’s experience and accomplishments were nothing short of spectacular. His legacy in the world of music is a rich tapestry of dedication, talent, and inspirational mentorship.
