Richard R. Warren, 93, of Mt. Lebanon, PA passed away January 18 from natural causes with his eldest daughter Liz by his side, his longtime caregiver. Richard was born in White Plains, NY on June 20, 1930 and was a resident of Scarsdale, NY for many years. He was the son of the late Alfred I. Warren and Irma B. Warren. Dick, as friends and family called him, was educated at The Choate School, now called Choate Rosemary Hall, in Wallingford, CT.
While attending college at Washington & Lee University in Virginia, Richard took a leave of absence to serve in the army during the Korean War and served in a Postal Unit in Yokohama, Japan. Upon return to campus, he graduated in 1957. Richard married Eliza Gatewood Harlow from Lexington, VA on October 17, 1959.
Richard was owner and President of Consolidated Appraisal, Inc. founded in 1917 in New York City. Richard worked with his wife, who oversaw marketing and public relations. Together, their company performed more appraisals of residential contents for insurance purposes than any other firm in the country.
In May 2002, the Washington & Lee Alumni Association presented Richard a Most Distinguished Alumni award for his many years of volunteer service to the University. While a member of the Alumni Board of Directors, he helped establish the Athletic Hall of Fame at the University and served on the committee that chose the first three years of athletic inductees. The New York W&L Chapter honored Richard for his service to the chapter and University during W&L’s 250th Centennial in 1999 in New York City.
Richard was an avid hiker, tennis player, and community volunteer. He served as President of Fox Meadow Tennis Club in Scarsale from 1985-1987, and for many years was a widely respected and admired volunteer with the Scarsdale Fire Department Company #2. He was a member of Hitchcock Presbyterian Church. After retirement Richard moved to Bronxville, NY and then moved to Mt. Lebanon, PA.
Mr. Warren was pre-deceased by his spouse who died November 2, 2007. He is survived by his daughters Elizabeth Annette Warren of Mt. Lebanon, PA and Page Warwick Warren of Centreville, VA. Mr. Warren will be buried at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church in Lexington, VA next to his loving wife.
