William “Bill” Parke Tranter, Jr., 82, of Masonic Village, Sewickley, PA, died on Sunday, March 31, 2024. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September 2022, he defied his prognosis and persevered with great grace, dignity, and his ever-present humor and wit until his death.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Deborah Gressly Tranter; and his daughters Jennifer Guy Tranter of San Francisco, CA and Elizabeth Parke Tranter (Edward T. Hodgson) of Greensboro, NC. He was a loving and devoted husband and father.

Born January 12, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late William Parke Tranter and Elizabeth Guy Tranter, he was a resident of Mount Lebanon, PA, for 31 years until 2005 when he moved to Sewickley, PA. He was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy and Washington and Jefferson College, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was president of Tranter Manufacturing Company in Pittsburgh, PA, until the sale of its property to National Steel Corporation; he then managed family and other commercial and residential properties until his retirement.

He was a deacon at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Mount Lebanon, PA, where he was enthusiastically involved in the church’s youth camp at Windy Ridge, PA. He spent 70-plus summers with his family at his beloved Iron City Fishing Club on Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Kirkwood, Dr. Vikram Gorantla, and their staffs at the Hillman Cancer Center for their compassionate care.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Sewickley Presbyterian Church 414 Grant Street Sewickley, PA 15143.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
