Doris A. Farmer, age 97 of Friendship Village, Upper St Clair, PA passed away October 12, 2019.

She was the beloved wife of the late William A. Farmer and Loving mother of Beth Farmer of State College

She was the daughter of the late Beatrice and Harry W. Dienst of Boston

Doris was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she had served as a deacon, member of the chancel guild and as a wedding coordinator. She was also an active member of the Upper St. Clair Women’s Club, where she contributed her time as one of the original wedding caterers. She also volunteered on several committees at her home at Friendship Village. She enjoyed international travel, reading, and cooking.

Internment and a celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Washington City Mission, where she was a longtime supporter, at 84 West Wheeling St., Washington, PA 15301 or the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center at 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10065

Sue, My sister, Nancy, saw your mom’s ’obit’ this morning and contacted all of us. I’m Karen, the one in Atlanta. I want to tell you how grateful I am for having known your mom, and for the friendship she and my Mom (Lois Ross) maintained through the years; she was a true sister to mom. Their lives intertwined in many ways, and both were better for it. I am sorry for your loss and the grief that follows like occasional waves that wash over us. It’s always been difficult for me living away from home, seems it takes more time to recover, than for my siblings who live nearby, and have to deal with the loss daily. I loved your mom in a way that sometimes made her uncomfortable: I always hugged her a little too long, and kissed her a couple of times, hello and good bye. She came to expect it from me, and in later years seemed to enjoy the occasional attention. We loved having your Mom at birthday and other family events, she was a lively and expected addition. We will miss her and always think of her, as she was family to us too.You are in my thoughts and prayers as you navigate this time of loss and reorientation without your Mom. Karen Ross Sedlak

So sorry to hear of her passing. She was like extended family to us. A sister to my late Grandmother, Lois Ross. I have so many lovely memories of her from my childhood up into the lives of my children, Joshua and Renee. Funny stories of her travels with my Grandmother and holidays spent with us at my house.
