Michael “Mike” Gene DeMoss, 57, passed away quietly at home on April 9, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Laura Hughes DeMoss; stepson, Chris Hughes; mother, Patricia Joy; sister, Melissa Murphy; niece, Amanda Hartsock (John); father Gene DeMoss and family; stepbrother, Jeffrey Joy and family; and many, many close friends. He was proceeded in death by his stepfather, John W. Joy, and grandparents, Samuel and Inez Riley.

Born in Bowling Green, Ohio, Mike spent the majority of his life in Pittsburgh, PA, where he met Laura, the love of his life.  Together they skied, biked and went on numerous vacations, including Indian Shores, Florida, where Mike especially enjoyed wetting a line and dining at PJ’s. Along with a wife, he also gained a son, Chris, with whom he shared a mutual passion for hunting and fishing. Mike was an avid golfer and a member of Highlands Golf League in Delmont for years, even after moving to North Strabane.  He was very successful and competitive when it came to sports.  He was also a loyal Pittsburgh Penguins fan.  Mike loved his life and knew how to live in the moment better than most – including sitting back and savoring a premium cigar and a smooth scotch.  His sense of humor will be greatly missed, and he will forever be remembered as a loving husband, stepfather, son, big brother and friend to many.

Mike spent his entire career in sales, primarily in the construction sector, including Allegheny Steel Products, Construction Tool Services and Hilti Fastening Systems. He received numerous awards throughout his career.  He studied at both the University of Pittsburgh and Southwest Missouri State University.

A celebration of life will be held with family and friends at a later date.

Donations may be made in his name to AHN Home Hospice (http://5814.thank youforcaring.org/hpcare) or the charity of your choice.

Mike Demoss was a shining example of how we can all get along in this world despite not seeing everything the same way, and losing him is one of the sad events of my life. We always had a smile for each other, and enjoyed good times, and that is more than one usually gets. But this was enhanced by knowing we held many of the differing opinions that splinter our society these days, and yet his grace showed though those superficial ideas always revealing he was driven by the same heartfelt core values that made him like a brother to me. Mike made my life happier, and he still gives me hope for humanity. I've missed him already when I did not make time to get together often enough, and I'll miss him even more knowing we've lost him. Laura, please accept my empathy, and my sympathy, for the loss of our friend. I look forward to when we can gather again, and enjoy each others company, and remember Mike.
