Helen (Meraklis) Florent, age 88, on Monday, June 15, 2020, of Mount Lebanon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after waging a courageous battle against ovarian cancer over the past year.  Helen was preceded in death by her Greek immigrant parents Harry & Angela (Mitaras) Meraklis, and two brothers Samuel Meraklis and Gust Meraklis.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years Daniel Florent, and children Gus (Barb) Florent of Mt. Lebanon, Sophia (George) Omiros of Uniontown and Harry (Kathy) Florent of Maryland, grandchildren Christopher Omiros of Uniontown, Alicia Omiros (Keven) McCloskey of Rostraver Twp., Dan (Kathleen) Florent of Castle Shannon, Melissa Florent (Neil) Lepore of Whitehall, Michael Florent (Quijuene Williams) of Pittsburgh, Paul Florent of NYC and Sam Florent of Maryland, great-grandchildren Danny, Rosie and Daisy Florent and Alyse Sophia McCloskey, and brother Meno (Christina) Meraklis of Maryland, sister Mary (Frank) Manios of Warren, OH, and sister-in-law Loretta Meraklis of Coatesville, PA, cousin Meno (Jean) Mitaras of Pittsburgh, and Aunt to four nieces and four nephews.

She very much loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was an active member of the monthly Greek Friends Book Club, was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking Greek delicacies and baking for her family.  She enjoyed traveling the US, Greece and Europe with her husband during her retirement. For over three decades she served as executive secretary for Manganas Painting and for two decades was a transit assist for First Student.

Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA. Due to pandemic protocols, services by Fr. John Chakos of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church will be private for immediate family at the Mount Lebanon Cemetery Mausoleum. Please view and sign the family’s online guestbook at www.PittsburghCremation.com.  Contributions in Helen’s name may be made to Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228, or charity of donor’s choice. I would like to Express my most sincere condolences to Dan and the rest of Helen's family. I was her last driver at first student and I really enjoyed getting to know Helen last summer while working with her. She truly was a wonderful person. Dan, I hope you are well.
