Jiyoun Jean Shin (née Chang), 81, of Upper St. Clair, PA, born on July 17, 1939 in Incheon, South Korea, beloved wife of 55 years to Dr. Hyunchul John Shin, peacefully passed away on October 6, 2020.  She was the eldest child of the late Yongbong Chang and Kumsoon Song, loving mother of Jeanne McCommons, Katharine Pino, Dr. Ann Shin, Sharon Shin, and Brian J. Shin, mother in law to Jerry McCommons, Edmund Pino, Young Yu, and Nana C. Shin, and doting grandmother to Eric, Lauren, Allyson, Marisa, Ethan, and Owen. Jean, as she was known by friends, was an entrepreneurial dynamo who earned her medical degree as a star student at Ewha University, the top women’s university in South Korea. She practiced as a OB/GYN physician, and then was the driver for her and her husband to immigrate to the United States in 1966 and build a new life in America. Jean was the center of the family and was truly a “super mom” who somehow managed to take care of kids, meals, business, investments, and all family matters while never seeming to get flustered. She was a social butterfly who would chat up just about anyone she met, often becoming the life of the party. Always smiling and friendly, she took up real estate as a hobby after devoting much of her earlier life to raising her 5 children. She always had great business ideas and acted as a friend and mentor to her kids as well as to many others in her community. She was an active member of her church congregation for many years and always was ready to help out a friend in need. Jean will be truly missed by her family and all who loved her.
