James F. Starkey

James (Jim) F. Starkey, 91 of Millsboro, PA passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Beloved husband of 70 years to Alverda (Giles) Starkey. Jim was born on May 17, 1931 in Pike Run, PA and is the son of the late Earl and Helen Starkey. Loving father of James F. Starkey, Jr. (Tina Starkey), Kathy Starkey, Timothy Starkey (Lena Starkey), Michael Starkey, the late Donna Wilson (Robert), and the late Thomas Starkey. Brother of Robert Starkey, Helen Marie Sanders, Patricia Conti and the late Richard and William Starkey. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jim graduated from California Area High School and was a member of the Trojan’s 1949 undefeated football team. A special memory for him was on October 27, 2017, when all the players were honored before the California Area High School football game with many of his family present to  support him.

Jim served in the Army during the Korean War at Fort Richardson, in Alaska. He loved spending time with his family and riding his bicycle all over Millsboro and on the various bike trials in the area. He also loved decorating his house for Christmas and placing numerous flags in his yard for the patriotic holidays.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Friendship Community Church, 1090 Weirich Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
