I am very sorry to hear about Coach Stellfox's passing and my sincere condolences to his family. He was my middle school basketball coach as well as the JV coach when I was in high school at Peters Township. He was an excellent coach, always very organized, with clear goals and was obviously a terrific "student of the game" as they say. I learned a great deal about the right way to play the game and praise from him did not come often, but when it did, we noticed. In his understated and focused way, he encouraged teamwork, discipline, and communication, lessons which translate well from the basketball court to life. I, of course, had not seen him in many years but recall with fondness those lessons. He was in every aspect a teacher on the court, a model for fair play, hard work and doing things the right way. I never really mastered the left-handed layup he encouraged all of us righties to do, but I did learn how to yell, "Switch!" when someone set a pick on me I could not get through! May he rest in peace. He made a difference.
