Alverda J. Starkey, 87 of Millsboro, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

Beloved Wife of 70 years to the Late Jim Starkey who often referred to her as “Bird.”

Alverda was born on July 29, 1935 in Millsboro, PA, she was the Daughter of the late Florence and George Giles. Alverda was raised by her aunt and uncle, Ethel and Watt Barnes. She was the Loving Mother of James F. Starkey, Jr. (Tina Starkey), Kathy Starkey, Timothy Starkey (Lena Starkey), Michael Starkey, the late Donna Wilson (Robert), and Thomas Starkey. Also survived by Sister in Law, Cindy and Doe Giles. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband and siblings,  Clara Dee Stickovich, Vera Henry, Ed Giles  and her Twin Albert Giles.

Alverda attended East Beth High School. She was a talented seamstress, not only did everyone know her for her skills, but she also made all of her children’s clothing. She was devoted to her church and a proud member of Christian Mothers. She loved her card group and enjoyed playing when they could all get together. Alverda worked as the Produce Manager at Davis Giant Market in Dry Tavern for many years. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Service will be held on April 22, 2023 at 11 am at Friendship Community Church, 1090 Weirich Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.

John and I are so sorry to hear of Mrs. Starkey’s passing. A mom is your first bond and no matter how long you have them it isn’t long enough. But, God leaves us beautiful memories, as we read in her obituary. So she will always be in your hearts.
