Bob W. Guns, age 77, of Mt Lebanon/Pittsburgh, PA, formerly of Vancouver, B.C., Canada peacefully passed on April 4, 2017. He was the son of the late Tommy and Calista Guns; devoted husband of Veronica Becke Guns; loving father of Laura McLafferty and Kevin Guns; brother of Brian, Paul, and Lisa; step-son of Fay Guns; lovingly known as Uncle Bob to the Becke and Guns Families, also in the neighborhood as Mandy’s dog walker.

Bob was a great adventurer, traveler, and a prolific writer. He went to West Van HS. Bob graduated from UBC. He taught secondary school at Carson Graham and Spectrum and became vice principal in B.C. He then went on to achieve his Ph.D. at the University of Oregon and was awarded The Charles Stuart Mott Fellowship. In 1979, he began Probe Consulting Inc. Bob had been practicing as an Organizational Development and management training consultant for more than 20 years.

After surviving a massive stroke in 2005, his life’s purpose and passion became helping other stroke survivors. Bob wrote a handbook for stroke survivors and their caregivers called, Rewire Your Brain Rewire Your Life and developed a theraputic program called RAISE. Demonstrating his commitment, Bob started a stroke support group in Mooresville, NC and became an advocate for the American Heart & Stroke Association.

Bob’s legacy lives on in his stories and teachings. His most recent book, Slammed Again! Survival Lessons and Offbeat Tales, (Bob recorded a podcast and started a blog to go with the book!) speaks to his love of life, humor and how generous and giving Bob was to others. Forever a seeker of knowledge and explorer of life.

Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Bob’s life after 2:00PM at his home on Saturday, April 15, 2017.

Additional celebrations of Bob’s life will be held in Toronto and Vancouver, dates TBD.

Bob loved flowers and supported Laura and her new career in floral design. Feel free to contact wildflowerchildnyc.com. Memorial contributions can also be made to the American Heart & Stroke Association.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Rd. McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546.

Veronica, I can only try to imagine the hole Bob leaves behind, but I know one day this hole will be filled with love and laughter of all the memories you shared. I admired and I will be always thankful to Bob for contacting my Mom after so many years. Mom always talked very fondly of the young man from Canada she met in her youth. It was a real honor for me to be the translator for Bob and Mom over the last years. Thanks also to you Veronica for giving us updates of Bob's well being over the last months. Our thoughts are with you and your family and thanks again for letting us be part of your and Bob's life. Nous vous embrassons, Silke & Helge

Veronica, Laura, family and friends.... My heartfelt condolences to all...... The obituary really captures Bobs life and his true essence. I am so glad we are planning the celebration of life in Vancouver this upcoming June 17th. I have wonderful memories of visiting Maple Ridge many years ago, and Bob always trying to be such a caring and gracious host to all of us that visited his country home! .....Do you remember the trek we took through your backyard forest, down the slopes, and to the neighbouring stream?.......I hope you have both been able to rest and grieve after such a difficult and swift death. With Love from Mary-Lisa.......
