Carolyn Joan Troy

August 19. 1937 – February 25, 2023

Carolyn Joan Troy was born on August 19, 1937.  She left us on February 25, 2023.  Better known as Carol, she lived a long, very happy and FULL life.  She suffered many physical ailments over the years but never complained about them. She ALWAYS had a smile on her face and kind words to say.  Carol passed peacefully having the chance to say goodbye to her husband, her children, and every one of her grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her father John Frances Berie, her mother Carolyn Oberly Berie and her brother John (Jack) Berie.

Carol is survived by her devoted husband Dr. Guy G. Troy, attentive daughter Krista Troy Foster (Les Duncan), dedicated sons G. David Troy (Wendi) and Douglas P. Troy (Pam) and her ten beloved and adored grandchildren Saige Foster Subosits (Peter), Colby Foster (Jake Claflin), G. Walker Troy, Mallory A. Troy, Ella C. Troy, Brian R. Troy, Brynn N. Foster, Maryn G. Foster, Bradley P. Troy, and Sophia N. Troy. As well as her brother David Berie.

Carol was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She attended Mount Mercy Academy and went on to receive her teaching degree from what is now known as Carlow University.  Carol and Guy were married in the summer of 1961. Shortly after that, she followed her husband to Laon, France while he served as an officer (dentist) in the Air Force.  They spent almost 3 years in France and had their 1st daughter Krista and 1st son David there.  She and her husband traveled all over Europe as a young married couple.  They had a 3rd son Douglas upon their return to the states and raised their family in Mt. Lebanon, PA.

Carol loved life.  She was an active participant in everything she did.  She was kind beyond words, made friends young and old everywhere she went and was a mom to so many.  As an enthusiastic reader she loved being a part of a book club.  Carol loved to play and watch games.  She played bridge in many bridge clubs over the year; made some of her closest friend through card clubs.  She volunteered as a member of the Junior League and at her children’s schools.  Carol was a tennis and paddle tennis player.  She was an avid golfer; she was a skier and even learned to fly fish later in life.  She spent many hours watching her grandchildren play sports.  She loved to watch the Pirates and the Steelers games.  But the game Carol loved most was the “Game of Life!” and she lived it to the fullest every single day, played it the best she could every step of the way and never let us down.  Her last chapter is now to guide and protect her family through the example she set and all that she taught us.  We know you are with us always and forever sweet Carol, Mom and Gammy. So much love in our hearts.

A mass and celebration of Carol’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 10:30am.  St. Louise de Marillac Church – St. Catherine Laboure Parish 320 McMurray Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15241.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sisters Place. Sisters Place offers to families and individuals in crisis safe support services, bridges resource gaps, supportive housing and so much more to the Greater Pittsburgh area.

To the Troy Family — I loved your mom very much. She was so happy, a joy to be around and doted on me on our trips to Stone Harbor or just to the south side. And oh, those sparkling blue eyes. I am blessed to have had her in my life when we were in PGH. Much love to you all. Dana Lemmons Hammele

I met Carol Troy when I attended Kindergarden with her daughter Krista. I played after school at their home several afternoons. Mrs. Troy was always so kind and warm to me. She had a specialness about her that just made it easy and fun to be with her! She also had a great sense of humor. Carol and my Mom became friends and stayed close for 54 years. She and my Mom met for lunch once a month right up until the last few months before she passed. I know my Mom And Carol Troy are playing bridge and having a wonderful time together now. It’s comforting to know my Mom had such a good friend waiting for her. I am sorry Dr. Troy and Troy kids and Grandkids for your loss. I know how wonderful Carol was and how much she loved being involved in all your lives. Carol was beautiful inside and out!
