Christopher “CJ” Mohney, Jr., 28 of Castle Shannon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 15, 2024. CJ was born in Pittsburgh on March 2, 1996, and is the beloved son of Anita (Brian Orlovsky) Mohney and the late Chris Mohney, Sr. He is survived by his brother Brandon; aunts and uncles, Gina (Eric Midgley) Patterson, Carla (Keith) Stark, Darla Fortwangler, Thomas I “TJ” (Wendy) Mohney, Hope (Matt)
Lepczyk, Charity (Terry) Bangham, Patience (Joe) Eckhart, Josh (Courtney) Mohney; his grandmother Patricia (the late Gene) Patterson, grandfather, Thomas (the late Christine) Mohney; his dog and faithful companion Toby, and many cousins and friends.

CJ has always been a beloved member of his community, doing whatever he can to help others in need with a heart as enormous as his infectious smile. He shared his love and kindness with every person who crossed his path, inspiring so many people not to sweat the small things in life—showing them the meaning of unconditional love. His vibrant energy made sure that everybody had a smile on their face.

CJ loved the outdoors—especially kayaking, spending time at his family’s camp, and vigorously shaking up your favorite drink at Tako Downtown—“because I can make people happy and help them to have fun.” His favorite place to be was soaking up sun at the beach. Listening to the ocean brought him great comfort and happiness, peace in every wave.

The family will be forever grateful for all those who have generously supported them and CJ along the way. Everyone is welcome to a Celebration of CJ’s life on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Sophia’s Event Space in Coraopolis (Kennedy Township). In lieu of flowers please donate to the Pittsburgh Melanoma Foundation https://runsignup.com/CJMohney

I remember Christopher and Brandon from when they were toddlers playing in their sandbox on the back porch. Your sandbox is still here under Jenn’s porch. Christopher climbed everything as he got older. You boys always got into everything. I am honored to have known you CJ. Too soon to be taken from us and from a full life. You leave behind a legacy of having a big heart and love of family and friends. See you on the other side.
