David J. Salata, 75 of Robinson Township, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born December 3, 1947, the son of the late John and Sophie Salata and grew up in Natrona Heights.

He graduated from Edinboro State College, where he met the love of his life.  He taught Art in the Montour School District for 35 years and was a source of inspiration to many of his students.  Dave enjoyed many things — playing golf, shooting pool, fishing, attempting to win at the casino, and driving his many unique cars. He loved spending time with family.

He was a kind man. He had a great sense of humor and made friends easily.  In many messages people shared he was like a dad to them.  He knew how to light up a room with that big beautiful smile and always made you laugh and feel comfortable in his presence.

Dave is the beloved husband of 49 years to Francine; loving and proud father of Jacob and Benjamin (Brooke); cherished pap pap of Bella Salata and bonus grandfather of Cole Musser; brother-in-law of Paulette (James) Barry and Beth Ann (Donald) Coley; also, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to all the earthly angels at West Penn Hospital on T7 and MICU and the Cancer Institute in Robinson. The compassion you showed and the care you gave him were extraordinary. Gratitude also to our family members and friends who stood by our side during Dave’s illness. You provided us with so much love and comfort when we needed it the most.

Friends will be received on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 4-8 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Twp, PA 15136.  Mass will be held on Saturday the 9th at 10 am at Archangel Gabriel Parish, St. Malachy Church, 343 Forest Grove Rd, Coraopolis, PA 15108.

Memorial contributions in Dave’s name may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at https://givenow.lls.org.

My deepest sympathies to his family. I had Mr. Salata for Art Classes all four years of high school. Most of my free class time was also spent in his classroom . My older daughter was lucky to be one of his students when he taught at D.E.W. I’ll never forget him, he was a great teacher and person. 💔

Francine, Katie and I spent Friday and Saturday driving back to our home in FL. We both spent a lot of that time remembering the many of years of friendship with you both. We hope you and your sons find some peace in the fact that Dave made a difference in this world and his life meant a lot to many people. He will be truly missed. We will try to stay in touch and hoping you do the same. Love and many warm thoughts!!! Dave and Katie
