On February 27, 2024 David Flinchbaugh, 77 years old, of Canonsburg, PA passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack. He was the son of Richmond and Luretta Backel Flinchbaugh of York, PA.
David is survived by his wife Kathy Carberry Flinchbaugh, his sons Greg (Sharon) of Oakdale, PA and Brian of Hayden, Alabama. Also surviving are two brothers Art (Rose) Flinchbaugh and Rick (Diane) Flinchbaugh of New York, one sister-in-law, Pat Flinchbaugh of Lakewood, Washington, a sister Sue Irwin of Hanover, PA and a special niece, Cindy Rivera and her children of Shrewsbury, PA, as well as several other nieces and nephews. He had one grandson, Wyatt Flinchbaugh,5 years old, who was his best little buddy.
Dave was a member of the Bridgeville, PA congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. When Dave was newly married he worked at McGraw Edison, then worked for Trim-Line and finally had his own striping and window tinting business. He worked the morning he passed away, as not much would stop Dave.
Up until several years ago he rode his bicycle 20 miles a day. When he was 65 David rode a 100 mile Century Ride in Finley, Ohio. On one bike trip he rode with his two sons on the Allegheny Passage from Ohio Pyle, PA to Cumberland, MD. They had trouble keeping up with him!
Since Dave’s wife was in a wheelchair the last 16 years, he would find interesting historical places to visit. They would pack a lunch and fill two thermos with coffee and off they would go. Just riding in the car, they explored many interesting old towns with historic buildings in the area. Dave was also an avid photographer. He loved shooting black and white pictures with his film camera. Kathy would wait patiently in the car while he got just the right exposure and light for his pictures.
Dave also liked to tell stories of his childhood. Their car rides with the boys when they were young always led to Dave’s detailed explanation of his life in York, PA with his family.
When a grandson finally entered his life at age 72, he spent many hours caring for and playing trains with Wyatt. Thus began a new host of “Wyatt stories”. They were best friends!
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Barbara Miller and Lorna Gentzler and brother, Ronald Flinchbaugh.
Dave will be missed by his wife of 52 years, his sons and grandson who will hopefully continue their own stories about him.
We all love you and will miss you terribly, but look forward to life with you again in Jehovah’s paradise. (Acts 24:15)
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 30th at 3:00 PM at the Bridgeville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3482 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15017 as well as on Zoom.
