Harold Benson, age 94 of Bethel Park, PA formerly of Scott Township, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2020. Born in Pittsburgh on May 28, 1926, he was beloved husband to the late Beatrice Benson for 70 years. Loving father to Russell (Jacqueline) Benson. Cherished grandfather to Tyler (Amy) Benson and Jocelyn (Ryan) Friedrichs Benson. Dear grandfather to Aiden Benson Friedrichs. He is the brother to James Benson, June Schneider, and his late brother Art Benson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Harold was a graduate of Connelly Vocational High School in Pittsburgh where he learned the trade of drapery installation. He then enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He was honorably discharged on the 20th day of February 1954. During WWII, he served in the Pacific where he received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. He was also stationed in Japan after the war. Harold also served during the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal.
Harold installed draperies for a living and worked for many companies in the Pittsburgh area. In his younger days, he loved bowling and playing fast pitch softball in the church league. After he retired, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, helping his son Russ in any way he could, and golfing with his friends.
Harold will be remembered for his devotion to his wife of 70 years during her difficult times. He was her rock during her failing health. Harold was always there for any family members in need. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
A private service will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546.
