Jean Louis Coignard, age 97, Scott Township, PA, formerly of Williamsville , New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2023. He was born on April 15, 1926 in Lennon, Brittany, France.

He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Odette Louise Coignard, who passed away on March 3, 2015;
cherished father of Lynda Battista; father-in-law of Paul Battista; dear brother of Elisa Léon of Whitby, Ontario, Canada; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, living in Canada and France. He will also be lovingly remembered by many friends in Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Florida, as well as Canada and France.

Jean was a stone mason by trade, a skill he learned from his father. He was a hardworking, talented mason who loved his craft. In his free time, he was an avid gardener, growing anything from tomatoes and beets, to leaks and garlic.

He and his wife, Odette, cherished family and friends above all. They loved to fill their home and entertain for every special occasion. They shared a love of dancing and their house was always filled with music.
Jean loved to tell his stories of growing up in France and the many adventures of living in Canada, Buffalo and Florida, then finally coming to Pittsburgh in 2013 to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law.

He will be remembered for his love of life, and his great love of family and friends. Jean will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

As his final request, he and Odette will be reunited in their final resting place with his parents in Port Colborne, Canada.

At the family’s request all services will be private. Please no donations or flowers.

Many fond memories of Tonton Jean; as a teenager, working on the house in Buffalo and many fun times at family gatherings (always the joker). He was also a very good cartoonist. Will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace. Dan and Sandy

Jean was very good to us. He built a magnificent stone wall. When he finished he said “ The wall will be there 100 years after the house falls down “ Odette is now preparing Jean a gourmet meal- a two hour extravaganza- that is her specialty. We shall never forget meeting the entire family at Lynda and Pauls wedding. Jean’s death is a sad loss for all of us.
