John Paul Havel, age 82, of Canonsburg, PA, passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2024. Born on July 25, 1941, in Washington, PA, he is the son of the late John and Ann Havel of Southview PA.

Beloved husband of 58 years to Kathleen Minucci Havel. Brother to Nina (Richard) Bobrowski and Ann (John) Volk. Cherished father to Lisa (Kenn Prokopchak) Baxendell, John (Marilyn) Havel Jr., Daniel (Kari) Havel, and Melissa (John McCartan) Havel. Grandfather to Troy Anthony (Alicia) Baxendell, Ryan Baxendell, Dylan Baxendell, and Haylee (Anthony) Cosgrove.  Julia and Braden Havel.  Jillian and Ella Havel.  Kylie Cook.  Great-grandfather to Lorenzo and Gianni Baxendell.

He is preceded in death by brothers Rudy and David Havel.

His marriage to Kathleen for 58 years was filled with love as John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who cherished time with his family.  John’s strong belief to put family first, dedicated work ethic, and desire to always be “on the go” resulted in years of special memories made with his family.  John enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Erie, collecting and displaying Lionel trains, and had a passion for music, especially polka, doo-wop, and country-western.

After his service in the Armed Forces, John was a self-employed business owner for decades, honing his craft as a custom home builder and expanding into commercial storefront construction in the South Hills.  Later in his career he worked for several regional firms providing construction management services for commercial business entities.

A mass will be held on Monday January 22nd at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, Resurrection Parish, 126 Fort Couch Rd, Pittsburgh, PA, 15241. Interment will take place at a later date at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements are entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, McMurray.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
