Joseph L. Mayer

Joseph L. Mayer passed away peacefully in Upper St. Clair, PA on October 10, 2023.
Born August 14, 1948 to Ann Mayer (Skelly) and Jacob Mayer, he grew up in Duquesne, PA before attending Indiana University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate degree and returning following discharge from the Air Force, for a master’s degree in History. While in the Air Force, where he underwent computer training, Joe attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After leaving the Air Force, Joe began a distinguished career as an IT specialist and eventually an IT director.
Joe worked for several companies, beginning with Allegheny County, including PNC, Federated Investors, Paradigm 4 and Access Data. Joe eventually retired from Impact Applications and devoted himself to his favorite hobby: taking long drives through the mountains with his trusty canine companions. His dogs Brett, B.J., and Callie were his children by his own admission, and they were treated to a life of luxury living.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his longtime friend Judy Walters and his dogs, Brett and B.J. Joe is survived by his sister, Patricia Mayer Stanfill, his dog Callie, and many friends who became his family over the years. Joe will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Funeral services and internment will be privately held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
