Joseph Phillips Briggs, age 59, of Brookline, PA, formerly of Richmond, VA, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013, surrounded by his family and friends who have become family, music, and love.  Born on June 11, 1953, in Roanoke, VA, he is the son of Dorothy and the late Phil Briggs of Roanoke, VA.  Beloved husband for 26 years of Cheri Cunningham; brother of Elizabeth Briggs of Roanoke, VA; brother-in-law of Don (Peggy) Cunningham of Pittsburgh and Ralph (Jolene) Cunningham of Johnstown, PA; and also survived by nephew, Justin (Miranda) Cunningham and niece, Alexis (Josh) Capouellez.  Joe was a talented Bass player who enjoyed playing with various bands including the Blue Orphans, Timber Ridge, Page Wilson, Cloud Valley, and the Petersburg Symphony.  A memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at The Church of the Holy Cross, 7507 Kelly St., Pittsburgh, PA 15208, on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM.  No flowers please.

Joe will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I knew Joe through the music of the Blues orphans, as he was the Bass King. His gentle shyness was balanced by his awesome playing skills. I'll see you in the afterlife!
