MaryJo Closser, 81 of Washington, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2023 from complications of sepsis. She was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on December 15, 1942 and is the daughter of the late Dallas and Thelma Plumer. She is the beloved mother of Carissa (Michael) Smith and Cassandra (Robert) Henney; loving grandmother of Samantha Henney and Jacob Coulson; sister of Patty (the late David) Sumner and the late Elizabeth Plumer. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and long-time friends that she adored.

She was a teacher, mother, and social worker. Forever a social butterfly, she made friends wherever she went and kept a full social calendar. She would often gift little trinkets to those around her to brighten their day. In her retirement years, MaryJo volunteered as a driver with Road to Recovery, earning an award for her service.

An intelligent, strong woman, she held passionate views, fierce protectiveness, and stubborn independence. She passed as she lived – on her own terms. MaryJo was one to make her own way and lived as she chose to, relying on grit and fighting spirit to navigate life’s many challenges.

MaryJo will be interred at the Plumer family plot in Washington Cemetery. There will not be a formal service, at her request. Her family asks that you keep MaryJo in your thoughts and memories. A donation to Meals on Wheels, which was a social lifeline for her in the years prior to her passing, also would be appreciated.

Private arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA. Please share condolences at http://www.pittsburghcremation.com
