Opal Marie (Ope/Sis) Heil, 89 of Wheeling, WV passed away Friday, June 9th at AHN Hospital, Wexford in Pittsburgh, PA.

Books could be written about this kind-hearted, quick-witted, fun-loving woman, but with limited space and price per word, we’ll keep it brief (she was also frugal).

Opal/Sis built the most beautiful life by living simply and loving deeply.  Her greatest love was her devoted husband, Robert (Bob/Pap) Luke Heil, followed quickly by her children and their spouses: Daniel Robert Heil (Linda Marple), Thomas Luke, Sondra Kay Heil-Larsen (Kurt Larsen) and Roger Khetan (a son born into the family via love, but not by birth); grandchildren Jordan Daniel Heil, Sydney Marie Roffini (Alan Roffini), Samuel Conrad Larsen and Ella Marie Larsen and many nieces and nephews.

Her hobbies included playing ping-pong and games of any kind with friends and family (Boggle, Scrabble, cards, Scattergories and many, many more).  Neighbors have said that the most familiar sound coming from their back porch was that of the Boggle box being shaken up as she and Bob played together for hours every summer evening.  She was in a card club with dear friends for over 40 years.  She loved sewing, reading books, and cooking.  Her favorite foods were pumpkin pie, chocolate, tomatoes and anything with salt.

She worked hard throughout her life taking care of her mother and family; working at the telephone company as an operator, and working at her brother’s flower shop handling billings.

We would like to thank the tireless workers at AHN Wexford and the amazing resources at St. Barnabas.

In lieu of a traditional funeral service, we have opted for an on-line memorial page which can be found at http://www.mykeeper.com/profile/OpalHeil/.  We would love for you to add photos, stories or comments letting us know what she meant to you.

Our lives were immeasurably better with her in it, but we will continue to live in love and happiness as she would have wanted.

Arrangements entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, Robinson Township.

Mrs Heil, you truly were an angel here on earth. You will be sadly missed by all who knew you. My condolences and prayers to Mr. Heil, Dan, Sandy and Tom as well as their respective families. Your mom was always a pleasure to talk to and she could brighten anyones day with just a simple "Hello". Rest in peace.

The first time I met Opal, she reminded me of my paternal grandmother. She was a woman of great dignity. I soon observed all her wonderful qualities. Family was extremely important to Opal. She was direct and a strong woman. She was very intelligent. I enjoyed emailing her as well as speaking with her on the telephone. She was always pleasant and seemed appreciative of the communication. We often talked about plants and flowers. A family member had given her a plant-of-the-month gift. She was very excited about receiving the monthly plants. I told her the plants I had at my home and what seeds I would be attempting to grow. We enjoyed these conversations. The one trait I will never forget about Opal Heil was her strength of will. She was a woman who moved forward with purpose. The word “setback” was not in her vocabulary. I am thankful that she came into my life as a good friend. She is someone that you meet once in a lifetime. I will never forget Opal Heil.

It was an excellent biography and picture of Opal. Opal was a very kind, always smiling, lovely lady and a very dear friend to us. We know Opal and Bob family for over a long time. Here is how a brief story goes…. We meet Tom Heil in 1995 through our twin sons ( Roger and Rainer) who were doing their medical internship at Allegheny general for one year. Tom was at Allegheny general at the same time and lived in the same apartment complex where our sons were residing. Our sons then returned back to Texas. We met Opal , Bob and family in Wheeling and Pittsburgh. Since then our families have been very close! Several years Tom had now moved to Dallas and Tommy has been our third adopted Khetan son. Not by birth but by love! Opal, Bob and family have visited Dallas. Our both family bond grew stronger each day and it is continuing now! On a funny side, we always remember.., Opal and Bob kept themselves physically fit and very thin. Whenever we went to a restaurant with them, they ate very little. They will order one grilled sandwich and divide among both of them. That was their lunch meal! I ( Raghu ) and my wife ( Elke) ordered a small lunch meal for each one of us. They will be finished and we will still be eating… felt so uncomfortable. Later on, Roger told us Mom/ Dad Heil Family is short and eat less. It was so funny! There were so many laughs and wonderful time we had together with Opal! We are so blessed to know Opal. So wonderful lady and a very true friend! We will miss Opal always. Gone but never be forgotten! She will be always in our heart. May her soul rest in peace! 😇😇🙏🙏❤️❤️. Our deepest heartfelt sympathy to Bob, Sandy family ( Kirk, Sam and Ella) and the entire Heil family. May God and Angels give you strength and comfort during this very difficult time. Our constant prayers are with you 🙏🙏😇😇
