Aaron Smith, age 44, of Venetia, PA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer, on November 15, 2023.

Born on July 9, 1979, in Charleston, WV, he was the loving son of Cynthia “Cindy” and William “Buz” Smith, and brother to Paige Marion Smith.

Married for 17 years to the love of his life, Jessica Land Smith, together they built a family with three beautiful children, Wyatt, Sadie, and Josette Smith.

Aaron is also survived by his in-laws, Deborah and James Land, his sister-in-law Natalie (Sam) Levine and brother-in-law Garrett (Kelsy) Land, three nephews, one niece, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

Aaron graduated West Virginia University with a Masters in Civil Engineering and then continued his education at Duquesne University School of Law. He was extremely proud of his career as an Attorney with Peacock Keller LLP.

Aside from being an exceptional family man, Aaron was a vital influence in the Peters Township community, whether it was attending every Boy Scout camping trip, coaching basketball and soccer, contributing to the PT Soccer or Basketball Boards, being an integral part of the Peters Township Planning Commission, or the leadership role he had on the Leadership Washington County Board, Aaron was always heavily involved.

Aaron held his faith in high regard as a dedicated member of the St. John XXIII Parish, under the spiritual guidance of Father Michael Stumpf, Aaron found his Catholic faith. He has also been described as a true gentleman, someone who always made people feel special.

The overwhelming support from the community has been greater than the Smith family could have ever imagined. Aaron will be missed by all those who knew and loved him – as any proud Mountaineer would say, ‘Take me home, country roads’…

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546. Many of us on the faculty at the Law School remember Aaron fondly. Aaron had a sharp mind and a very kind heart. To be sure . . . he was admired by his faculty and fellow students. To his wife Jessica, his three children, and his family, we are very sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace with our Lord. On behalf of the many faculty and staff at the Law School who knew him well . . . we shall keep the Smith family in our prayers. Prof. John T. Rago
