Alfonso Carrillo, 77, of McMurray, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on November 7, 2023.

Born on August 2, 1946 in Teúl de Gonzalez Ortega, Zacatecas, México, he was the son of the late María de la Luz and J. Encarnación Carrillo.

He is the beloved husband of Marianne; loving father of Brenda (Tom) Flanigan, Amy (Steve) Wilson, Marissa (Jim) Robison, Richard (Adrieann) Carrillo, Monica (Brian) Hunter and Nina (Brad) Strigle; cherished PopPop to 16 grandchildren, Kennedy, Anderson, Rebekah, Joshua, Lincoln, Maya, Walter, Rocco, Lucia, Brielle, Carter, Kelton, Henry, Maxwell, Zachary and Baby Girl Hunter; dear brother of José (Filomena), J. Ines (María del Consuelo), Elvia Carrillo, J. Guadalupe (Hilda), Alejandrina (J. Guadalupe “Pepe”) Gonzalez and brother-in-law of Susan (Paul) Allard.  He is preceded in death by siblings Praxedis, Toribia, María Refugio, Ismael, Herminio, Aurelio and brothers-in-law Arthur (Linda) Cook, Charles (Loretta) Koch and Ronald Koch.

In 1970, a social dance at the Catholic Alumni Club – Merchandise Mart in Chicago, Illinois – brought Alfonso and Marianne together.  They married on July 29, 1972 and grew a family of 6 children.  While raising a large family in Chicago, Alfonso proudly worked for the famous Drake Hotel for 14 years and moved on to build a 31-year career with General Motors Company, moving from Elmhurst, Illinois to McMurray, Pennsylvania.  Upon his retirement, the couple enjoyed cruising and ultimately Alfonso pursued his hobby of caring for 250+ head of cattle on his beautiful ranches in México.

Alfonso fought heroically against Pancreatic Cancer for the past 5 months. He never wavered in his journey.  In every aspect of his life, a strong work ethic was Alfonso’s identity and his motto was “you can fix anything with electrical tape and ingenuity”.  Alfonso will be missed, but he remains forever in our hearts.

Family and friends are welcome on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. John the XXIII, (St. Benedict the Abbot), 120 Abington Drive, McMurray, PA 15317.  Interment will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Mary, Mother of the Church Mausoleum, 2900 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, following mass.
