Cindy’s story: One of strength, courage, and love, so much love.

Cynthia “Cindy” Cudnik (Kubala), 70, of Dunbar Twp., passed away peacefully and with as much grace as one can accomplish in death on Nov. 1, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian surrounded by her family. Cindy was born on Oct. 10, 1953, to the late Elmer “Chip” and Naomi Kubala of Dunbar Twp. She was a graduate of the first Connellsville High School class in 1971. Cindy was a trusted, calming, and non-judgmental presence in her family with her immediate and extended family coming to her for advice, encouragement, or simply an ear to listen. One of her most admirable traits was her need to make people feel special.

Cindy was known for her excellent cooking skills even though she ate her steak well done. She embraced her Polish heritage making the most delicious cabbage rolls and pierogis. She had many specialized dishes she would create for her family including “Cindy Surprise” on Sunday mornings and her famous deviled eggs. She hated fruit and snakes. In fact, she turned into the Incredible Hulk if she saw a snake, no matter how tiny.

Cindy worked for Dollar General from 1999-2015. She was a master at what she did. She won the “Top Overall Performance” award for the entire nation two years in a row as District Manager which won her trips to Hawaii and St. Lucia. But the job she excelled at the most was being a mother. She was a hero to her children. Her number one priority was to protect her children including up until the moment she took her last breath.

She loved all things chocolate, cruises, the ocean, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, the sound of running water, casinos, and slot machines. But her real winnings came from the time she was able to spend with her family. She leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Stanley, with whom she shared a marriage full of airy humor; beloved son, David Cudnik of Pittsburgh; daughter and best friend, Crystal Weimer of Oakland, MD; adored son-in-law Steve Weimer with whom she shared a very special relationship; dear sister Kathy Kubala Hartman of Allen Park, MI; brother-in-law John Hartman; her five prized grand dogs whom she took care of with honor and pride: Bettis, Wrigley, Tessa, Korva, and Santana; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cindy’s work here on Earth is through; she is on to her next assignment in the spirit world that comes with a huge sign-on bonus as she is reunited with her adored father; beloved grandmother, Esther Roseck; and her loving grand dog Jazmine. Cindy’s advice will live on through the people she influenced. That advice includes the cure to getting rid of hiccups, not opening a box of something like cereal until the first box is finished, and the only way to be truly happy with someone is if you make yourself happy first. It was an honor to know her and a privilege to learn from her, especially on how to love. Finally, in honor of Cindy, her family asks that you take an opportunity to make someone feel special today, no matter the cost to you. Please join us for a celebration of Cindy’s beautiful life at Duck Hollow Golf Club Banquet Hall, 374 Duck Hollow Rd., Uniontown, on Saturday, Nov. 18 with visitation from 2 – 4:30, prayer and eulogy at 4:30, and dinner at 5:30.
