Florence Marie Meyer Kenny

Florence Marie Meyer Kenny, age 94, of Upper St. Clair, passed away on December 5, 2023.

Born on May 5, 1929, in Duquesne, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude Haig Meyer and Jacob Meyer.

Beloved wife of Robert E. Kenny; loving mother of Monica Leary, Constance Kenny, John Kenny, Ruth Kenny and Robert Kenny; cherished grandmother of 12, Megan, Maura, Jack, Matthew and Peter Leary; David Miller and Jacob Garretson; Malin, Mallory and Leah Kenny; Ivy and Leo Brenneman and 9 great grandchildren. Also survived by nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Ambrose, Albert, Msgr. Joseph, Mary, Gertrude, Jack, Sister Jacqueline, and Catherine. 

Florence graduated from Duquesne High School in 1947. Furthering her education she attended Braddock General Hospital, where she graduated in 1950. Florence was a woman of intense curiosity, she was always learning. She had a passion for taking great care of others, whether it was her family or as she was serving as a Lieutenant Naval Nurse Corps. from 1951-1957, later caring for many as a Nursing Supervisor at Kane Hospital from 1976-1994.

She was a seamstress, birdwatcher, Campfire Girl Leader, member of St. Thomas More Church and its choir. She was a proud member of USC Seniors Group where she was known for her Strawberry-Rhubarb Pies. She summered in Touisset, Rhode Island. 

A Mass will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 10 am at St. Thomas More Church, Resurrection Parish, 126 Fort Couch Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15241. Repast will follow.

Condolences to the Kenny family at this difficult time. I am a friend of Monica's and I've heard so much about her wonderful mother. Having lost my mother this year last year at this time I understand your grief. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
