George Edward Roberts, age 91, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024 at his current home at Chartiers Bend Retirement Community in Bridgeville, PA, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wheeling, WV, on September 25, 1932, he is the son of the late Hugh, Sr. and Stella Roberts.

Beloved husband of Barbara Roberts (née Anthony) for 67 years. Adoring father to Sharon (Tom) Bovalina and Bob (Karry) Roberts. Loving Pap to Collin (Rachel) Bovalina, Corey (Desiree) Bovalina, Aubrey Roberts, and Kaylee (Eric) Reiter. “Pap the Great” to Emersyn, Cadence, Charlotte, and Dawson.

George is preceded in death by his siblings: Hugh Roberts, Jr., Thomas Roberts, James Roberts, Robert Roberts, Marie Ross, and Elizabeth Lefkay.

George served in the US Navy from 1950-1954 as a Petty Officer First Class aboard the submarine rescue ship, the USS Chanticleer. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he earned an associate degree as a machinist and began his career at Wheeling Stamping Company, later moving to Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel as a Tool and Die Maker, where he retired in 1997. George grew up in Wheeling and met his loving wife Barbara after his military service. They were happy to live nearly their entire married life in Martins Ferry. They were active in the community and had many lifelong friends including a group that would get together and enjoy monthly luncheons 70 years beyond their high school days. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing, and proudly wore the ring that he earned after a very rare amateur accomplishment of bowling a perfect 300 game. The family would often refer to him as “Mr. Fix It.” He could fix anything and built very creative things throughout the years for his children and grandchildren, from a life-sized playhouse and a backyard ride-on train to beautifully hand-crafted cradles. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends.

Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Thursday, January 18th, 2024, 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, Peters Township; 3287 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA, 15317. A service will take place on Friday, January 19th, 2024, at 1 PM, followed by burial with full military honors at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.
