Henrietta Wireman Shuttleworth

Henrietta Wireman Shuttleworth, 97, an accomplished fiber artist and longtime resident of Mount Lebanon, died January 28, 2018, in Mount Lebanon. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1920 and graduated from Philadelphia’s University of the Arts in 1941. From 1971 to 2005, Henrietta Shuttleworth exhibited her fiber art in numerous juried Associated Artists of Pittsburgh shows at the Carnegie Museums and in numerous shows at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and other art venues in Pennsylvania. From 1966 to 1986, she taught classes in creative stitchery and weaving in the continuing education program of the Mount Lebanon Public Schools. She was a member of Pittsburgh’s Associated Artists, Fiber Arts Guild, and Weavers Guild, as well as the Washington Spinners and Weavers Guild. In 2000 she published Sunshine and Shadows, a biography of her artist mother, Katharine Richardson Wireman, which led to a 2012 exhibition of K.R. Wireman’s work at the Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington, Delaware. Henrietta Shuttleworth and her late husband, William Sydney Shuttleworth, were married for 74 years. She is survived by their three children, Steven A. Shuttleworth of Pittsburgh, Susan (Robert) S. Leggett of Seabrook Island, South Carolina, and Sharon S. Galm of Arlington, Virginia.
