James R. Amodie, age 83, of Peters Township, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on June 22, 2023.
Known as Dick to family, and Jim to many friends and colleagues, he was born on January 22, 1940.  He was the son of the late Margaret Amodie.  He was beloved husband of almost 59 years to Myra Amodie; loving father of Laura (Josh) Kirshtein of Severna Park, MD and Leigh Ann (Matthew) Gorman of Peters Township; proud grandfather of Maya, Ryan, Eleanor and James; and treasured brother of Luann (the late Robert) Daugherty.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and his devoted dog, Phoebe.
Jim was an enthusiastic amateur radio operator who discovered his passion for classical music after building his first radio as a teenager. He also loved hiking, biking, and traveling with his wife Myra. He was a respected Physics teacher at Baldwin-Whitehall High School for over 30 years and then became the district’s first Technology Director.  Jim’s dedication to his teaching motivated many of his students to become science teachers themselves.  One of Jim’s most endearing qualities was his sense of humor that stayed with him until the end.
Per Jim’s wishes, all services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Western Pennsylvania Parkinson’s Foundation, http://pfwpa.org .

Myra , my deepest sympathy to you and family. I have memories of the time I spent with Dick at grandma’s house on Meadow Ave. He built me a small radio that I listened with an earplug. It was a treasured gift, along with the wooden airplanes he made. Sincerely Anthony Balsano
