Jean C. Niemer, age 97 (nee Genevieve Rutecki), of Buffalo, NY passed away peacefully on December 17, 2019 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Born on October 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Paul J. And Frances Rutecki.
Jean graduated from Villa Maria Academy and West Virginia University with a degree in Social Work. She completed course work for her Masters in Social Work at University of Buffalo. She was an avid West Virginia fan and was recently honored by the President of the University on the occasion of her 75th anniversary of graduation. She worked as a Social Worker for Catholic Charities in Buffalo prior to her marriage and was very active with many social and civic organizations including Catholic Charities, The Erie County Bar Auxiliary, and Canisius College Scholarship Fund. She was a dedicated volunteer at Sister of Mercy Hospital for 17 years. Active for many years at St. Gregory the Great Parish in Williamsville. She loved dancing to big band music and telling bad jokes.
She is preceded in death by her husband Hon. Raymond R. Niemer and her sister Jeanette Geuting. Survived by two loving daughters, Mary Ellen (David) Howard of Pittsburgh and Patricia Anne Bailey of Calabash, NC; also dear aunt to Barbara (Joseph) Forma of Elma, NY and Mary Louise (Steve) Pickering of Eustis, FL. She enjoyed the company of wonderful friends and neighbors during her lifetime.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
