It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary L. (Polan) Roberts, 80, of Washington.

Mary passed away on Friday March 15, 2024, in the Washington Hospital with her daughter Leisa by her side.

Mary was born March 7, 1944, in Washington, PA. The loving daughter of the late George Polan and Elizabeth Clark. Later loved dearly by her stepfather James Clark.

She was a graduate of Trinity High School.

In 1964 she married Samuel L. Fox and had one daughter Leisa J. Shawley.

On March 9, 1974, she married William W. Roberts with whom she enjoyed an amazing life until his death in July of 2016. With that union she was also blessed with four wonderful stepchildren – Cathy (who was also by her side these final days), Nanette, Robbie, and Paula.

Mary will always be known for her smile, kindness, and gentle soul. She love her gardening, flowers, playing cards, bingo, and for over 20 years every Saturday night you would find her with Bill, Leisa, Bud, and friends playing dartball at the Bears Club – where she won numerous trophies playing darts. After dartball you would find her with longtime friend Ruth who she also loved dearly taking their chances on the ticket machine and enjoying a Budweiser.

Many sunny days you would find Mary sitting in her favorite swing on the porch watching her hummingbirds.

Mary is survived by her daughter Leisa and Son in law George “Bud” Shawley who she loved dearly. She would love to talk baseball with him as she was a big Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

Also, two stepdaughters Cathy (Ed) Hartner and Nanette (Larry) McNeal. One surviving sister, Betty J. Friend, who she also considered her best friend. Nieces and nephews, Diane (Allen) Dulaney, James (Susan) Friend, David (Jennifer) Friend, Joe (Lisa) Martin, Chuck (Dayna) Yeager, Beth Isenberg, Many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Deceased in addition to her husband Bill is a stepson William (Robbie) Roberts and stepdaughter Paula Heise. Two sisters Shirley Martin and Alice Atkins and a nephew William Yeager.

Her loving and tender soul will always be remembered by her family and friends. Her love of family was incredible and she will be greatly missed by many including her favorite grand dog Rocco.

At Mary’s request there will just be a private family gathering.
