Susanne Knecht Lindefjeld, age 51, of Mount Lebanon, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 after prolonged illness.  Susanne was born on April 18, 1965 to the late Peter and Heidrun Knecht. She is survived by her children Jon and Katie, her sister Dagmar, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and many cousins back in Germany.

Susanne was born and raised in Germany where she trained as a registered nurse. In 1990, she and her then husband moved to Harrisburg, PA, where her son was born in 1992. She eventually settled in Mt. Lebanon in 1993 and welcomed her daughter in 1996.  With tenacity and hard work, she earned her BSN and her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Duquesne University while still working full time.  She brought a special knowledge to every hospital with her work experience on two continents.

Familiar with the experience of moving to a foreign country and being new in town, she stood ready to help the new people and other immigrants in her community find their way around.  She loved music, especially Irish folk, played the guitar, and was very crafty and creative.  She painted murals on walls in her house, painted the glass on her front door with roses, and even when she was sick carried her knitting bag around.  She loved gardening and was someone that would plant a bed of flowers and then pride herself on the weeds.  Most of all, she adored and loved her children and was incredibly proud of the young adults they have become. She will be missed by her family and friends here and across the world.

There will be a funeral service to celebrate the life of Susanne on April 17, 2017, at 11am at the Mount Lebanon United Lutheran Church, 975 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon, PA 15228, (412) 563-0300.  In lieu of flower please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in her name or to care.org.  Most of all, please consider registering as an organ donor if you have not already done so.

I was one of the immigrants who she has helped and opened her heart and home to. She was a ray of light and I will never forget her. Her mural, the flowers, the roses on the glass door...the light garlands in the house, all an extension of her inner beauty. Her smile. Her energy. Dagmar, Jon, and Katie, I am so sorry for your loss. Please let me know if I can ever be of any help .

I am saddened to hear this Mark. Please express my sincere condolences and thoughts to your wife Dagmar. Even though I have never met her except through you and your family posts, it is easy to see the passion for family. For peace , for love and for life. Bless this family.
