Vivian Irene (Filer) Eakin

Vivian Irene (Filer) Eakin of Washington, PA passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 20 with her close family surrounding her with love. Mrs. Eakin was known for her love of family and her joy in large family parties. She also treasured her travel adventures in the United States, Mexico, Europe, and the Carribbean. Throughout her life of almost 92 years she delighted in extending her warmth and hospitality to family and friends.

Vivian was born in Rutan, Pennsylvania to William Howard Knight and Alice Tharp Knight. She grew up on a farm and attended grammar school in a one-room schoolhouse where she assisted the teacher with younger students. Vivian retired after many years as a caseworker for Pennsylvania Department of Public Assistance. She sang in the church choir and was a longtime member of the First Christian Church of both Waynesburg and Washington PA.

Vivian was married to Donald Filer from 1950 until his death in 1997. She was married to William Eakin from 2004 until his passing in 2021.

She is survived by her five children: Surviving son Gary (Patty) Filer of Waynesburg, PA. Grandchildren Larissa (Eli) Henderson with great grandchildren Coen, Caleb, and Carter. Justin (Brooke) Filer with great grandchildren Laina and Leni; Brad (Jess) Filer, and Roxanne (Matt) Hammar.

Surviving daughter Vivian Coleen (Roland) Barney of Washington, PA. Grandchildren Nathan (Michelle) Simmons with great grandchildren Harlan, Ronan, and Kinsley, David Simmons with great grandchildren Amelia and Hope (deceased), Tommy Simmons, Brooke (Jason) Mumford with great grandson Wyatt, Katrina Barney, Wesley (Melissa) Barney, Amanda (Josh) Shirey with great grandchildren Penelope, Kinsley, and Wyatt, Heather (Patrick) Hughes with great grandchildren Gavin, Alexander, Reagan, and Bryce.

Surviving daughter Cindy (Denny, deceased) Franks of Jefferson, PA. Grandchildren Denny (Cara) Franks, Courtney (Dave) Ignaski with great grandchildren Josie, Brayden, and Colton, and Natalie Franks (deceased).

Surviving son Shane (Heather) Filer of McMurray, PA. Grandchildren Aiden, Evan, and McKenna (deceased).

Surviving daughter Scarlett Church of McMurray, PA. Grandchildren Megan (Zach) Zelinsky, and Grant Church.

Surviving stepdaughter Marylouise (John) Christ. Grandchildren William John (Katy) Christ, Matthew Christ, and Jenna (Brandon) Snyder with great grandson Dominic.

Surviving stepson Richard Kier. Grandchildren Sean Kier with great granddaughters Madison, Sarah, and Samantha, and Christopher Kier (deceased).

Vivian is preceded in death by her sister Bernice Peterhoff, and her brothers Donald Knight and Lawrence Knight.

Visitors are welcome for viewing Friday, February 23 at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Services led by Robert Cowell will be held on Saturday, February 24 at 10 am at the funeral home.

Burial at Greene County Memorial Park followed by funeral repast at Waynesburg Nazarene Church, 115 Deerfield Lane, Waynesburg, PA.
