Bernadette Lebakken, 67 of Shaler Township, formerly of Sharpsburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2023. Beautiful and loving wife of 47 years to Wayne Lebakken. She was born in Pittsburgh on December 30, 1955, the daughter of the late Bernard and Teresa “Tia” Persichetti. Devoted and cherished mother of Bradley (Victoria) Lebakken, Danielle (William) Wineberg, Dylan (Tayler) Lebakken and Gabriella (Conner) Haberman. Caring sister of Julia (Tim) Baker and Bernard (Jeannette) Persichetti. Loving Nunny to her 7 “grandbaby angels” Ezekiel & Crosby Lebakken, Wesley & Preston Wineberg, Nora, Dylan Jr., & Theodore Lebakken. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Bernadette loved spending time with her family. “Family togetherness” as she called it. Her favorite place to be was the beach where she enjoyed taking walks with her husband and eating at her favorite restaurants. Bernadette was known for her strong relationship with the Lord, her servant heart, and generous spirit. She was an inspiration to many. She lives on in the lives of the family she has built. Bernadette was also a dedicated employee for over 20 years at Duquesne University. She cherished serving the School of Education.

Friends and family are welcome on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Christ Church at Grove Farm, 249 Duff Road, Sewickley, PA 15143, where a Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am. Bernie was a joy to work with: she was as solid as a rock, she had a giving heart, and she enacted endless commitment to others. While I served as Interim Dean of the School of Education, Bernie was my Chief of Staff. She took care of me. My wife Nona and I loved Bernie. On a trip with Nona to China–while serving as Interim Dean–my wife Nona purchased jade for Bernie and delighted in presenting it to her. She told Bernie: You take such good care of Rick in this tough position. This message to Bernie's family is thanks to Bernie and condolence to Wayne and her entire family from both Nona and me. I once wrote that "Learning is the measure of teaching." I still believe that is true and because I do, I can say–with conviction–that Bernadette Lebakken was one of my great teachers.

I only knew Bernie from my work on an education advisory board at Duquesne University; but what an impact she made on me. She was the consummate professional through two Deans (during my time). She was such a positive light for so many of us - made us feel welcome and took care of so many details for everyone so that we could have productive meetings. I was always proud that my alma matter had such an amazing person in the Education department. I will miss her. God took a good one home and too soon! I am sorry to your family and friends. Sincerely, Tracy Vitale, Superintendent of Schools, Seneca Valley School District

I'm so very sad to hear of Bernie's passing. She was an old and dear friend of 30 years. I have many wonderful memories of working and laughing together and our times together outside of work. My deepest sympathies to Wayne and to all her children and grandchildren. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace, Bernie. I know that you're flying with the angels.
